Ireland 2014 Vacation – September 10th – Derrynane (Ring of Kerry)

Home of Daniel O’Connell – The Liberator.

We met a guy (Mr. O’Shea) at this cove who told us that the funeral processions for the locals carry the deceased across the beach (see following pictures) to the cemetery. The image of mourners, dressed respectfully and trudging across the beach seemed like something from a sad Irish movie.

Glacial striations.

Oyster beds.

Note small rock wedged in perfect fracture.

Notice the rectangular object on the horizon. The following picture is zooming in to see what it is.

Zooming in of the object within the previous image. Not bad for a fixed-lens, el-cheapo cameral (Fuji S1).

En-echelon quartz-filled fractures

Home of Daniel O’Connell.

Carriage used to parade Daniel O’Connell through the streets of Dublin after his release from prison.
