2021 Odyssey – Day 23 – Big Spring, Missouri

Minor gravity spring on left and mega upwelling artesian spring on right.
Gravity spring. Pretty but nowhere near as much volume as the artesian spring.
Overhead view of artesian spring. This puppy is one of the largest in the USA – 286 million gallons per day from a source more than 50 miles away. The dissolved dolomite in the water is estimated at 173 tons/day. This means that over the course of a year, the equivalent of a 1 mile long 11×12′ cave is being created. In other words, there must be bergillions of huge undiscovered caves in southern Missouri. Bergillions!
Troglodyte cave babe.
