2021 Odyssey Resumed – Day 12 – Depoe Bay to Somewhere in the Cascades of Southern Oregon

It was tough to leave Steve and Diana (and Tahoe too).  Their hospitality is off the charts and their new home is beyond exquisite.
The woods around their home remind me of a northwest Pacific rain forest.  Wait, it is …
Aside from the botany, the geology ain’t bad either …

Here’s a video with some clips of memorable highlights including frothing waves, too much Coast Guard towing exercises, crashing waves, barking sea lions, really cool jellyfish, and our campsite for the evening way up in the middle of nowhere …

… nor the ornithology,,
… nor the oceanography.

Newport, Oregon is like a New England seaport without the New Englanders.  I’d say more, but don’t want to offend my New Englander friends. Snobs.

Sadly, some of the industrial toxins in the harbor have produced some mutations.

Here’s a video showing some boat pics …

I couldn’t figure out if this talkative sea lion was protecting a sick friend or a pregnant mate.
We followed a logging road up towards a ridge to find a campsite.  Along the way we encountered a car that had slid off the road.  Nobody inside which is good because the slightest push would have tumbled it downwards.
Moonshot through the trees.
