2021 Odyssey Resumed – Day 15 – Winnemucca to Bonneville Salt Flats

We awoke to spot two doves on the top of a nearby Airstream. A good omen for the day.
Driving through Wendover made me wonder if the locals call it “Bendover”.
No caption would do this justice
Note the polygonal dessication cracks in the salt. Waycool!

I’ve wanted to camp on the salt flats ever since the last time we drove by. This time, Dyan begrudgingly indulged me.
Dyan is quite the golfer despite her all-wrist style. Golf balls seem to roll an extra 100 yards here.
Fortunately, Dyan soon fell in love with the place after experiencing the grandeur. Imagine being able to ride your bike in total darkness, in any direction, without concern for hitting anything. It’s truly a magical experience.
Just for the heck of it, we decided to deploy everything including the portable shower and toilet which we have never used and probably never will.
A truly magical night in a place where there’s nobody else as far as the eye can seen.
We awoke to a grand sunrise that petered-out in a low cloud ceiling.
An incredible experience.

We’ve encountered quite a few delays while traveling the back roads.

We’re currently camped near Manila, Utah and it’s snowing like crazy. Such is the cost of off-season tourism. The route home should prove to be interesting.
